„Neukölln Forever“ was a temporary tattoo/ drawing performance in Saalbau Heimathafen Neukölln, Berlin during the literature festival „STORY!“ in the Berliner district Neukölln. Assisted by the artist U. Loge, I performed fake tattoos on visitors. The drawings people could choose from had been designed on my commission by comic artists in Berlin especially for the occasion. The performance put the visitors in the position to choose a particular image that might be typical for their personal relationship with the neighborhood. In total visitors could choose from 46 different designs.
The contributing artists were Anna Bas Backer, Clémentine Guichard, CX Huth, Annette Knol, Annette Köhn, U. Loge, Auge Lorenz, Magenbitter, Lillian Mousli, Nettmann, Päm, Elke R. Steiner und Flo Weiss.

„Caveat Subscriptor“ 24hr Drawing Marathon (comix) and Performance in cheLA, Buenos Aires, AR 2010 Anna Bas Backer bid the local comic artists to take part in a 24-hour drawing marathon to make works about the stories and history of the city. The aim was to create themes which she would later use in a performance. For this purpose she proposed to the artists that she would ’steal‘ the work created during the marathon. The marathon took place in cheLA a former factory in Parque Patricios in Buenos Aires.
The participants were: Anna Bas Backer, Ernan Cirianni, Delius, Gustavo Deveze , Fran López, Luis Morales Ciancio, Marcela Sinclair, Santiago Slaby, Camila Torre Notari and Otto Zaiser.

From the comics, Anna Bas Backer selected figures and texts. Over 80 themes were produced from which public could choose during the opening show an exhibition. By using so-called hectograph paper- a method used typically by tattoo artists- she created ink stencils that could be applied on to skin. In this way, the public was symbolically challenged to choose an image to wear on their skin, exploring feelings of identity.

read what i wrote when palatti turned 10 in this blog post.

Palatti is an artist-run group that organises exhibitions on specific sites in an international context. During the Palatti projects, the artists work on location weeks before the opening to prepare the site-specific work for the exhibition and engage in lectures and other activities that stimulate exchange.

(Maybe do an ‚accordeon‘ here)

The creation of works in situ is considered an essential part of the project. Through guest lectures, workshops and studio visits the artists aim to stimulate a dialogue with their hosts, local artists and art students.

The group is an informal network of visual artists from different nationalities, working in different countries, using different media. The foundation of the collaboration was laid at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the Netherlands, where most of them met during their studies.

Palatti interacts with a diverse group of artists within the settings of a local art community. Palatti can be seen as a framework and catalyst for experience and interaction. Between the Palatti members, as they leave their studios behind and live and work closely together in an unfamiliar context, they exchange new ideas and inspirations. The artists absorb the physical and cultural environment through field trips and studio visits, offering presentations and workshops.

Palatti has worked in Leipzig, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Chongqing, Kosovo, San Lucar de Barrameda in Spain and in Berlin. Recently Palatti has been working on a publication as a follow-up project to the residency 2013 at ‚Birli‘ in Wald AR in Switzerland. Release: January 2015.

Permanent members of Palatti are or have been: Audrey Bakx, Anna Bas Backer, Mirya Gerardu, Aurelio Kopainig, Julia Mensch, Sara Pape García, Betty Ras, Paul Steenberghe and Yu Xiao Feng.
